The game itself is not difficult to understand. Most of the attention is on the Prize Symbols and Collector Symbols, especially the multiplier mechanic. The idea is simple enough, but the way these symbols land makes quite a difference to the actual results.
Our Gameplay Experience
After testing the demo, one thing that stood out was how much the game depends on the Collector feature. Regular symbol wins are there, but they did not feel like the main source of bigger results during our spins. They can produce a Big Win, but the larger numbers are more closely tied to Prize Symbols being picked up by the Collector.
And this is also where the high volatility becomes noticeable.
There were quite a few quieter spins when the Prize and Collector Symbols did not line up. Nothing particularly unusual for a high-volatility slot, but it does make the base game feel a little dry at times. The regular symbol payouts also feel fairly modest compared with the 10,000x maximum win shown for the game.
Free Spins are more interesting. Once the Collector multiplier starts building, the feature has more going on because the accumulated multiplier can affect later Prize Symbols. Getting several multipliers together is obviously where things can change quickly, although there is no guarantee that every Free Spins round will develop that way.
The overall gameplay is fairly simple. There are not many extra mechanics to learn, which can be a good thing if you prefer straightforward slots. On the other hand, players looking for a lot of different features may find it a little repetitive after a while.
PG Soft has also been releasing more games with Western or European-style themes recently, and this one fits that direction quite well. Whether Grimms’ Bounty eventually becomes a larger series is something we will have to see from future releases. After testing this one, the base game felt a little slow at times, with most of the excitement coming from the Free Spins. When the Collector and Prize Symbols do not line up, there is not much else happening, so the game can feel repetitive during longer sessions.
